Horse Racing In Dubai - A Brief History

Horse racing in Dubai is deeply rooted in Emirati culture and tradition and dates back to October 1981, when a Thoroughbred race was, for the very first time, conducted on a camel track. While the seeds were sown then, they wouldn’t emerge from the ground until 10 years later in 1992, when the Dubai Racing Club was officially integrated. After that, the equestrian culture was in full swing, aided by Sheikh Mohammed’s passion for horses, eventually leading to the very first staging of the Dubai World Cup in 1996.

Meydan Racecourse

The grand opening of the Meydan Racecourse in 2010 marked a turning point in Dubai, elevating Dubai’s horse racing scene to international prominence. Boasting a mile-long grandstand, a futuristic design, and a sprawling floodlit track, it could accommodate over 80,000 spectators and allow for nighttime racing. Additionally, it provided a 1,750m Dirt track and a 2,400m Turf track. The racecourse is seven miles from Downtown Dubai and easily accessible by taxi.

Riyadh is the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is the largest city in not only the country but also the Arabian Peninsula. Riyadh also has one of the largest populations in the Middle East, standing at being the third most populous city right now.

There are so many things to do in Riyadh and while it is difficult to narrow it down to our top nine, this would make for a perfect itinerary for a short trip to the city. After all, this city is one of the best places to visit in the Middle East. From the Masmak Fort to Wadi Hanifah, there’s so much to see here.

Temperature In Riyadh

Riyadh has an extremely hot summer temperature, so we do advise that you check the temperature before traveling. The high temperature can go up to 120+ degrees Fahrenheit or 50 degrees Celsius during the summer and the average temperature during the winter is 70 degrees Fahrenheit or 21 degrees Celsius.

Travel Tips For Riyadh

Riyadh is a conservative city in comparison to other, more modern Middle Eastern cities. It’s of high importance to dress appropriately while here. Most malls, restaurants, cafes, and other public buildings have separate entrances for men and women so please be mindful of that.

There are five prayers a day and many places tend to be closed during prayer time, however, some would still be open and functional. When it comes to clothing, both men and women have to be dressed conservatively at all times.

While women don’t have to wear an abaya anymore, they still have to dress conservatively in loose-fitting skirts or trousers and full-sleeved shirts and blouses. Cover as much as you can.

Men should wear long pants and sleeved (short or long sleeves) T-shirts or shirts. Another important thing to note is even as you’re flying into Saudi, it’s best to dress just as conservatively, as you won’t be allowed to board airlines like Saudia if you are casually dressed in shorts and a t-shirt.
