Activities & Adventure 4 MINS READ

If there is something with which we relate summer is undoubtedly the beach, the sun, and the good vibes of the holidays. It is also the time for many to enjoy those full-time passions, hobbies that we can not devote all the time we would like during the year but are able to transport us to paradise every time we find time for them.

To welcome the summer we would like to make a special post for those crazy surfers (in practice or in theory), a passion that becomes a philosophy of life. Sun, waves, and time to connect with the sea and with oneself. And do not think that to be a part of that you have to be a professional with the board, the best thing about surfing is to enjoy every moment, every wave that you can not catch. Remember: 90% paddle – 10% riding.

Whether you are able to take those dream tubes or if you stay with the foams near the shore, there are some destinations that are the dream for any lover of good life and adventure. Therefore, we are going to discover some of the best countries to surf (or at least the best known), but they are also an ideal destination to enjoy the summer and everything the station has to offer.

Bali

We start with the obvious. Surely if we talk about Uluwatu something comes to your mind, whether or not you are surfers. Bali is the destination par excellence for the surfers, the lovers of the party and the beach. If you already have experience in the field Uluwatu is your place, if instead, you are a novice the best are beaches like Padang Padang, Kuta or Dreamland. Of course, do not miss the philosophy of surfer life and go for a party in Uluwatu, especially Sundays in Single Fin are worth mentioning.

California

Surfing has a long history and California helped the sport get noticed through movies, music, TV shows, and the surf culture which began in the early 1900s and exploded in the 50s and 60s. Who has not dreamed of walking in a Volkswagen with the Beach Boys at full speed and the surfboard as a companion?

For beginners, the most renowned beaches are Cowell’s in Santa Cruz, San Onofre State Beach in San Clemente, Zuma Beach in Malibu or Leo Carrillo in Los Angeles. If on the other hand, your trip is for improvement matters do not miss Trestles in San Clemente, Rincon in Santa Barbara, Cardiff Reef in San Diego and of course, Mavericks in Half Moon Bay and the famous wave of epic dimensions. Also, if you want to know more about the history of surfing in the state you have an appointment with the surf museum.

Hawaii

If we talk about surfing we have to talk about Hawaii. Hawaii is considered the birthplace of water sports and has a tradition as old as its history. The Ancient Hawaiian integrated surf into their culture, making it a fundamental part of their lifestyle. They used to referred to this art as he’e nalu which means “wave sliding”. The art began before entering the mysterious ocean as the Hawaiians prayed to the gods for protection and strength to undertake the powerful mystifying ocean. You have not made it as a world-class surfer if you have not done it on the North Shore in Oahu.

Australia

Australia’s surf beaches, where first-class waves for all surfing abilities crash, are born from the Pacific Ocean in the east, the Indian Ocean in the west and the Southern Ocean in the south. Bells Beach, near Torquay, the gateway to Victoria’s Surf Coast on the Great Ocean Road. Hang out in Burleigh Heads or coast along one of the world’s longest waves at Snapper Rocks on Queensland’s Gold Coast. You’ll find a wave to yourself in Western Australia and if you are thinking about to buy a surfboard this is your place: Australian surfboard-makers have driven innovation in surfboard design and production since the 60’s. The country has launched corporate giants such as Billabong, Rip Curl, and Quiksilver.

Other destinations in the world top are Portugal, Morocco, Norway, Senegal, Spain or France. If you have never climbed a board do not hesitate to try it at least once in your life and whether you are a prodigy or a disaster, get involved in the culture that surrounds the sport and let yourself be carried away by the waves and the good vibrations. Go with the flow and let Cuddlynest take care of yourself to make you feel at home everywhere.
