Rab Concentration Camp

A sad reminder of the atrocities committed during World War II, the Rab Concentration Camp is a horrifying testament to the dark history of this region in Croatia. There were many Italian concentration camps established around the world during this war and this was one of them. The Italian army founded the Rab Concentration Camp in July 1943. It was officially closed down in September 1943 more than a year after it came into existence. Unfortunately, some of the remaining prisoners were transferred for extermination to the Auschwitz Camp by the German army. Several prominent figures were born or raised in the Rab Concentration Camp. You may visit to pay your respects and learn more about the gruesome history of Rab.    

Medova Buža

Košljun Island

Among the terrific tourist destinations near Zambratija is the amazing Košljun Island. It may be small but it promises lots of fun for the whole family. This island is situated in the bay of Puntarska Draga near the Coast of Krk Island. There are spectacular views of the Adriatic Sea and surrounding islands close to Košljun Island. Within these 6.5ha of land you will be surprised to see lush greenery that soothes you on hot days. It is uninhabited except for the lovely St. Mary's Monastery where Franciscan friars live. Glagolitic text decorates the entrance of this monastery and there are some interesting religious and cultural artifacts displayed inside. There is a library with important books on religion as well. You will spot an old statue of Saint Francis with a wolf where the jetty is located on Košljun Island.     

Biserujka Cave

People who are fascinated by rock formations should visit the Biserujka Cave that is situated above the Slivanjska Bay on Krk Island. It is close to the village of Rudine where you may stop for refreshments. The 12m deep entrance to the cave is actually concealed by an old house made of stone. The maximum depth of the Biserujka Cave is 100m with has plenty of stalactites and stalagmites. There is a gallery inside where live concerts are held during the excellent guided tour offered to visitors.    

Mali Bok

Those who are curious about the wildlife native to the region surrounding Zambratija must check out Mali Bok. This is an incredible place to study birds because there are any species that nest here. As expected, it is abundant in insects including bees and hornets. Spanning nearly 550ha, Mali Bok is a beautiful area where many other animals can be found besides birds. You can see amazing views of the coast from here since it is situated on the cliffs. There is a rocky beach within Mali Bok where you may relax in peace.
