Garuda Wisnu Kencana
Famous as the tallest statue in the entire country, the Garuda Wisnu Kencana is a true marvel from every aspect. It is incredibly detailed depicting the Hindu Lord Vishnu riding his loyal bird whose wings are ready for flight. The genius responsible for this beautiful creation is none other than Nyoman Nuarta who made a suggestion for this project in 1990. The idea gained much support within three years. There was some local resistance for fear that the profits from the creation might not benefit the residents but those in the capital. Four years passed before construction begun for this statue but it took a dismaying amount of time leading to the unveiling in late 2018. The cost for building the Garuda Wisnu Kencana is nearly $100million. Not only is this the tallest statue in Indonesia but also the tallest one of a Hindu god in the world at 75m.
